This is a sad day on the Internet, as the trio of brilliant writers from Fire Joe Morgan announced that they will be closing down the site.
Simply put, it was the best sports blog out there, and it wasn’t particularly close.  They were awesome, and will definitely be missed.

Baseball Stats for Neophytes

I was reading an article the other day about baseball players who were struggling this year. You know, the standard mid-season type thing about guys who aren’t earning their paycheck and all that standard formulaic journalism.

In the article, a scout for the Royals spouted that standard line about how even the best hitters in baseball fail 70 percent of the time and it’s a really hard game.

Ah, A-Rod. Here’s a guy who has a chance to become the greatest player in the history of his sport, breaking tons of records while playing for the most prominent team in his sport. He plays on a team that has a chance at title every year. He’s still in the prime of his career. He is good-looking, talented and has access to the largest media market in America.

And he’s a total turd, in the eyes of the public.
